Water-Damaged Photos - In Progress

I am almost finished restoring the water-damaged photos and can't wait to share some of the finished versions. Until then, here is an "in progress" view of a very difficult restoration.

The original photo details are distorted in areas, there is color bleeding, and a major disruption runs right through the middle. The baby's arms, hands, and belly will have to be recreated.

Here is what I have completed so far. The middle section is the most challenging part, but I'm happy with the way it is turning out.

Water-Damaged Photos Part 2

In my last post, I shared some of the photos that were destroyed when my customer's basement flooded. Those precious memories are lost forever.

Although some of the details were beyond repair, the subject(s) in the following photos had enough left to do a partial restoration.

Note: Click on any image below to view a larger version.

Photo #1

The bottom of this photo is severely damaged.

I was able to restore the top half of the photo, including the faces of the main subjects.

Photo #2

A lot of the background areas in this photo had too much damage to fix.

The subjects of the photo, and most of the background were able to be brought back to life through a combination of restoration work and cropping out the damage.

Photo #3

The details in the background and bottom sections of this photo suffered the greatest loss.

I chose to replace the background completely, restore as much of the subject as possible, then crop out the bottom section that was beyond repair.

I can't wait to share some of the fully restored photos!

Sneak Peek at Water-Damaged Photos Pt 1

Here is the first look at some of the water-damaged photos I have been working hard to restore.

It breaks my heart, but the following are some of the photos that are too badly damaged and beyond repair. If no one else has a copy of them, they are lost forever.

Digitize Your Photos

As one of our recent customers found out the hard way, printed photos are susceptible to the elements. Let our experts help you preserve your precious memories by scanning and saving your printed photos for electronic storage.

She had put together a set of photos to create a scrapbook for her younger brother. Unfortunately, her basement flooded and all of her pictures got wet and suffered damage.

The colors ran on every photo; however, some still had enough detail left to be recovered. Others, unfortunately, were too badly damaged and the memories were lost.

I'll post a few of the pictures as soon as I finish repairing the last of them.

It doesn't matter if it is time, water, fire, tornado, or some other disaster, your printed photos are vulnerable. Don't let your precious memories be gone forever. Contact us now for a free estimate on digitizing your photos.

Sisters - Restored

Below are the "before" and "after" versions of the Sisters photo that I mentioned in my last post.

("after" photo, click on it to view a larger version)

("before" photo, click on it to view a larger version)

The original photo had:
  • A missing section (top, left corner)
  • Fading
  • Numerous Scratches
  • Was originally sized to be around 3x5
All of the issues were corrected and the photo was upsized to a 5x7.

I feel blessed that I was able to breathe new life into this old memory.

Sisters

Photos and videos help us remember those that are no longer with us. For many, these memories are vulnerable to the ravages of time and the elements. Printed photos can fade, get scratched, and suffer other types of damage.

The following is the "before" photo of my customer and her older sister who recently passed away. Once restored, the:
  • Fading will be corrected
  • Scratches will be erased
  • Missing parts will be restored
  • And the overall photo will be sharpened
Additionally, the photo will be upsized from a 3x5 to a 5x7.

Happy New Year!

Hello and happy new year!

I know it has been a while since I posted anything, but I've been swamped with a family health crisis and haven't found the time until now.

In between doctor visits and surgery, I have a few projects from some new customers I have been able to begin working on.

One involves photos that were going to be used in a scrapbook, but they sustained extensive water damage. Some of the photos, sadly, are too badly damaged to be repaired. There isn't enough detail to make out what the original image looked like, especially the faces. There are a handful that can be partially restored, and a few that will be fully restored. It is heartbreaking when photos are beyond repair.

The other is a photo of two sisters when they were little girls. As the original photo was approximately 4x4, I am not only fixing the damage, but upsizing it to a 5x7. The older sister recently passed away, so this is a precious memory indeed.

I can't wait to share some of the before and after photos very soon.

It is a true joy for me to work on and breathe new life into old memories.

It's been a while

Sorry it has been so long since I have shared anything, but my kidney issues have made it difficult for me to spend much time in the studio....
