A look back

I've been feeling nostalgic and put together a short slideshow with a few of the photos I've restored over the years.

It is only 45 seconds in length. I hope you enjoy it.

Removing Fingerprints & Other Damage

The latest restoration project dates from the late 1960s or early 1970s.

Some of the damage to this photo is caused by the oil left on the photo from fingerprints. There is also fading and additional discoloration.

The before photo below include a close-up of some of the damage.

Calder Dairy & Farm, Back to the 1970s

Today's post is a little different.

Several days ago, Calder Dairy and Farm posted a photo on FB of the farm from the 1970s.

My husband grew up just down the road from Calder's. You can see the farm while looking out what was once my mother-in-law's front window.

John Calder (the owner) and my husband's family have been long time friends. He even came to our wedding.

Because of the long-standing friendship, I saved the 1970s photo and did a little restoration work on it.

Considering it was a low-resolution copy of the photo and not the original, I think it turned out pretty well.

I'd love to get my hands on the original, and any other old photos, to breathe new life into the history of the farm.

Golden School Days, 1950, Grades 3 & 4

As I mentioned in my last post, this is the other photo I restored of my two other uncles who were in the combined 3rd & 4th grade classroom at Golden School in February 1950.

My uncles William Richard (3rd row from the left, 3rd seat back) and Lafford (4th row from the left, 6th seat back) are the oldest of my dad's siblings.

I can't wait for my next restoration project!

"Golden" School Days - 1950

I just finished restoring this photo of my dad (grade 1) and my uncle (grade 2) from 1950. My dad is in the last row, 4th seat back, and my uncle is in the 3rd row, 5th seat back.

There is another one I am still working on with another uncle who was in the combined grades 3 & 4 classroom.

I didn't find a lot of information on the "Golden School" except for the following location information:

It appears this is the old schoolhouse building on N. Monroe Street that is just south of the Mall of Monroe.

I love the stove with pipe in the back of the classroom, and the Valentine's Day decorations on the wall.

Because this was a large sized photo, it is difficult to see the scratches, creases, and tears in the original photo. I am really happy with how it turned out.

It's been a while

Sorry it has been so long since I have shared anything, but my kidney issues have made it difficult for me to spend much time in the studio....
