As I mentioned in a previous post, not all file sizes are proportional. When you resize a photo, portions of it may be removed to fit the new file size.
Last time, I gave you an example of what happens to a 4x4 photo when it is resized to a 4x6. This file size results in more of the photo being cropped out.
The following shows what happens to a 4x4 (square) photo when it is resized to a 5x7 (rectangle).
The 5x7 retains more of the original photo than the 4x6 because it is closer in proportion to the 4x4.
Some photo labs still offer square printing, which if selected, would mean none of the photo would be removed.
