Family Dinner - A Very Faded Photo

My latest restoration project has afforded me an opportunity to use some tools in new ways to bring back some of the detail that has been lost due to the inevitable ravages of time.

As you can see, the photo is very faded and much of the detail has been lost around the edges. I can't wait to see how it turns out!

Water-Damaged Photos - Finished

I have finally finished repairing the water-damaged photos. There were 20 pictures in total. Some were beyond repair, a few could only be partially restored, and the rest were saved.

Here is a look at some of the last ones to be repaired.

Water-Damaged Photos - In Progress

I am almost finished restoring the water-damaged photos and can't wait to share some of the finished versions. Until then, here is an "in progress" view of a very difficult restoration.

The original photo details are distorted in areas, there is color bleeding, and a major disruption runs right through the middle. The baby's arms, hands, and belly will have to be recreated. 

Here is what I have completed so far. The middle section is the most challenging part, but I'm happy with the way it is turning out.

Water-Damaged Photos Part 2

In my last post, I shared some of the photos that were destroyed when my customer's basement flooded. Those precious memories are lost forever.

Although some of the details were beyond repair, the subject(s) in the following photos had enough left to do a partial restoration.

Photo #1 

The bottom of this photo is severely damaged. 

I was able to restore the top half of the photo, including the faces of the main subjects.

Photo #2

A lot of the background areas in this photo had too much damage to fix.

The subjects of the photo, and most of the background were able to be brought back to life through a combination of restoration work and cropping out the damage.

Photo #3

The details in the background and bottom sections of this photo suffered the greatest loss.

I chose to replace the background completely, restore as much of the subject as possible, then crop out the bottom section that was beyond repair.

I can't wait to share some of the fully restored photos!
